About the Author

Dr. Joseph Ruhland

Dr. Joseph Ruhland is Professor and Chair of the Department of Finance at Georgia Southern University. He holds a Ph.D. in Risk Management and Insurance from the University of Georgia and has taught the personal financial planning course for nearly two decades along with courses in insurance planning, retirement planning, and investments.

Before academia, he spent six years in industry as an employee benefits consultant with Hewitt Associates and Aon Consulting, and he serves as Chairman of the Board of a community credit union. His published research includes work on retirement planning instruction, and his teaching has been recognized with Georgia Southern's Dean's Citation for Student Engagement. This book brings both the classroom and the practice into one course.
