A teenaged track star, son of a sociology professor, put his father's ideology to work in 1962 rural Georgia. But he learns that to save a beautiful black girl from a life of sexual abuse, he not only must put her life at risk, but also his own.

"The Race Before Us is fictitious, but it evokes sadness, anger and disbelief at the truth of "man's inhumanity to man". I read the book in record time because I could not wait to know if good would overcome evil." ----- Rachel Kelley, Hospice Nurse
