Bio

Dr. John Leyba is a Professor of Chemistry and Department Head of the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of North Georgia. He earned his B.S. in Chemistry from Truman State University (previously known as Northeast Missouri State University) in 1986. In 1990, he received his Ph.D. in Nuclear Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley.

Prior to his tenure at the University of North Georgia, Dr. Leyba taught at Newman University in Wichita, KS for twelve years where he held the titles of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor of Chemistry. In addition, he served as the Chair of the Division of Science and Mathematics at Newman. Prior to his time at Newman, Dr. Leyba worked for Canberra Industries in Denver, CO, Rust Federal Services in Anderson, SC, and Westinghouse Savannah River Company in Aiken, SC.

Throughout his 25-year career, he has received over 20 academic awards and honors and he has authored more than 70 books, lab manuals, book chapters, peer-reviewed publications, technical reports, and presentations. Dr. Leyba actively conducts research involving rapid dissolution techniques that utilize green reagents.
